Conducting and Teaching

Before moving to York, Alistair was the Musical Director of the City of Wolverhampton Choir, preparing them for joint projects and concerts of their own, including a performance of Fauré's Requiem and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. Alistair was also the conductor of the Ex Cathedra Boys Academy.

Alistair also studies Choral Conducting with Paul Spicer, and has recently completed an Associateship Diploma in Choral Conducting at the Victoria College of Music, completing the course with Distinction.

Alistair teaches privately in York, and has availability for new singing pupils of any age or ability.

Alistair is available to teach a whole range of different skills, including:

  • Singing Technique
  • Vocal Performance
  • Classical and pop repertoire
  • Aural and Sight-reading skills
  • Music Theory

Alistair is firmly of the belief that everyone has the physical capacity to sing, and that a good teacher can teach anybody.

When it comes to teaching, Alistair focuses on three core skills: Healthy tone production, the importance of text, and Musicianship.

When teaching, he places equal importance on all three skills, allowing his pupils to have healthy technique, a good knowledge of what they are singing about, and a good sense of Musicianship, applicable to any musical activity they do.
